India Preps for NZ Clash: Rohit Sharma's Light Session
Indian cricket team captain skippered a light training session on Wednesday, sparking some curiosity ahead of their Champions Trophy 2025 match against New Zealand. Following their triumph over Pakistan, the team returned to practice at the ICC Academy. While all players engaged in warm-up activities like football and running, captain Rohit Sharma opted for a gentler approach. Under the observation of Strength and Conditioning coach Soham Desai, Rohit was seen jogging lightly, not displaying his usual full range of motion. This comes after a hamstring injury sustained during the previous game. Despite the concern, Rohit assured in the post-match presentation that there was no cause for alarm regarding his fitness. During the session, he refrained from facing throwdowns and instead focused on shadow batting and discussions with the head coach and other coaching staff. In contrast, Virat Kohli was notably active, dedicating significant time to counter spinners, managing to tackle both net bowlers and teammates like Mohammed Shami, who was in exceptional form. Shami, alongside bowlers such as Arshdeep Singh, seemed in high spirits, delivering challenging balls under the keen eyes of bowling coach Morne Morkel. Morkel, who rejoined the team after a brief personal emergency, also engaged in strategic conversations with head coach Gautam Gambhir, ensuring the squad remains finely tuned. Notably absent from the session was a standout batter of the tournament, who chose not to partake in the practice. As anticipation builds for the upcoming clash against New Zealand, the team, under Morkel's guidance, looks ready to face the challenge head-on. With insights drawn from PTI.
