There's nothing like a cup of hot chocolate on a winter morning to start the day. But how healthy is it really? While the season brings with it a huge variety of immunity-boosting foods and beverages, there are some that you can avoid to prevent falling sick.

#1 Avoid fast food, keep those burgers and fries away

It may feel super cold to get out of the blanket and head to the kitchen, but steer clear of ordering that burger and fries. During the winter months, be watchful of the amount of fast food you eat. They contain saturated fats that enhance the lethargy that you already feel.

#2 Cold beverages, sodas & colas are a strict no no
Cold beverages and aerated drinks are a strict no during the winter months. High sugar content in fizzy drinks leads to insulin resistance in the body. This could further drop the body's ability to ward off infection and hence lower the immunity. Experts say you should cut down on fruit juices and load up on fresh fruits instead.

#3 Avoid eating raw salads after lunch during winter
In winter, avoid eating raw food and salads after lunch. They could lead to bloating and acidity. It is best to consume seasonal fruits and vegetables that aid digestion and heal the body internally.

#4 Cold dairy products could cause wheezing, allergies
Cold dairy products tend to cause wheezing and other allergies in winter, especially if had after lunch. This is not to discourage you from eating dairy products, but just have them in moderation. People who are susceptible to cold, flu must avoid smoothies, shakes and curd.

#5 Control that sweet tooth, sugar cravings may not be good
Experts believe excessive sugar intake causes inflammation and reduces overall immunity, so keep the desserts and sweets away if you can. During winter the body requires double the energy to digest food. Apart from reducing your immunity, saturated fats in sweets and baked food also hampers your weight loss journey.
