As more and more young people fall victim to the risk of stroke, a new study into the causes of a stroke may offer some answers.

Published in the European Heart Journal, the research found that one in 11 survivors of stroke faced a period of anger or upset an hour before it.

Additionally, one in 20 patients had engaged in heavy physical exertion before the attack found the study of 13,462 cases of acute stroke patients from 32 countries.

The global study of ischemic stroke, the most common kind, discovered that anger or emotional upset was linked to a nearly 30 per cent increase in the risk of stroke during one hour after an episode. These odds were even worse for people with no history of depression and a lower level of education.

Meanwhile, a brief episode of heavy physical exertion was linked to an approximately 60 per cent increase in risk during the one hour after exertion and it was especially high for individuals with prior high cardiovascular risk.
