We know that 8-9 hours of sleep is necessary for a healthy life. But it turns out you can’t have too much or too little of a good sleep.

Scientists at the University of Bergen conducted research on 1,848 patients in doctors’ waiting rooms across Norway. The volunteers were surveyed on the basis of their sleeping habits and if they had any infection or consumed antibiotics in the past three months.

The study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry found that those who reported sleeping more than nine hours were 44% more likely to report an infection, while the ones sleeping less than six hours a night were 27% more likely to need an antibiotic for an infection.

Other studies also suggest sleeping for too many hours leads to various health problems. And a study published in the European Heart Journal found that sleeping just four hours or less than the recommended six to eight hours increases the risk of heart attacks by 41%.
