What is RSV? Here's all you need to know about this contagious virus

Respiratory syncytial virus or RSV is a common respiratory virus that targets lungs especially its small air pathways (bronchioles). According to a study published in Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease, children below the age of 2 have higher chances of getting infected by the disease at least once.

Common symptoms of RSV are mild cough, runny nose, fever and cold. It is a communicable disease that can be transferred to adults as well, from infected droplets in the air or the surface.

As per CDC, people who are suffering from chronic lung or heart conditions and a weak immune system are at higher risk of catching RSV.

It is a seasonal illness like influenza virus which is usually caused during winters or late autumns and mostly lasts for 2 weeks.
