Trying to go meatless? These benefits will surely motivate you!

If you are a hard-core non-vegetarian who believes vegetarianism to be an incomplete diet form, then here’s something for you. Going meatless or limiting meat intake has a range of advantages linked to improved health and a reduced risk of certain diseases. So, let’s dive into the sea of benefits that might encourage you to give up on all kinds of meat and choosing plant-based foods instead.

May reduce the risk of heart diseases

Research published in the National Library of Medicine of the USA has found associations between the intake of saturated fat, primarily found in meat and animal products, and an increased risk of heart disease. The research also mentions that replacing saturated with unsaturated fat reduces the risk of heart disease. A plant-based diet may help in making this transition from consuming saturated fat to absorbing unsaturated fats.

Could improve gut health

Polyphenols found in plant-based foods help maintain a healthy gut. This plays a vital role in preventing the growth of certain cancer cells, improving body composition, and protecting against type 2 diabetes, as mentioned by the National Institute of Health of USA. On the other hand, the institute also says the fats and proteins from animal sources may promote the growth of harmful bacteria that negatively influence metabolism.

May help the environment

In addition to health benefits, eating more plants and less meat may be good for the environment. Meat production typically requires more resources, leading to greenhouse gas emissions, and contributes to deforestation and pollution. Choosing plant foods over some meat products may have beneficial implications for the environment.
