People who sit for six to eight hours daily have 13 per cent higher risk for heart disease, early death, says a new study.

According to a study published &nbsp;in the journal Jama Cardiology, people who sit for six to eight hours a day have a 13 per cent higher risk of early death and cardiovascular disease. The risk went up to 20 per cent for those who sit for more than eight hours daily.&nbsp;
For the study, researchers analysed more than 1,00,000 people from 21 countries for a period of 11 years. The team found that participants who sat the most and were the least active had the highest risk of heart disease, up to 50% while those who sat the most but were also the most active had a significantly reduced risk of around 17%.
However, replacing half an hour of sitting with exercise can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by two per cent, researchers concluded.&nbsp;

New research shows women who have had a miscarriage or stillbirth, have an increased risk of stroke in later life.&nbsp;

Women with a history of miscarriage or stillbirth have a higher risk of stroke in later life, a Queensland-led study has found.&nbsp;
For the study, the team analysed data of 6,20,000 women aged between 32 and 73 for a period of 11 years. Researchers found that the risk increased with each miscarriage or stillbirth.
As per the findings, more than 13,000 participants experienced a stroke, including 4,000 who died, during the study. Women who had miscarried once had a 7 per cent higher risk of strokes compared to those who had never experienced a miscarriage in pregnancy.
The risk was 26 per cent higher for a deadly stroke after two miscarriages. And after three or more miscarriages, the risk spiked by 82 per cent for a deadly stroke.

If you are middle aged and can&rsquo;t stand on one leg for 10 seconds, there is some bad news! &nbsp; &nbsp; According to a recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, middle-aged people, who can't stand on one leg and hold it for at least 10 seconds, are at a higher risk of dying in the next 10 years.&nbsp; For the study, the team conducted health and physical check-ups of roughly 1,700 participants aged 51 to 75 from 2008 to 2020. Researchers asked participants to stand on one leg for 10 seconds, with their free foot resting on the calf of their standing leg and their arms at their sides. &nbsp; Roughly 21 per cent of participants failed the test. The likelihood of failure increased with age; 54 per cent people aged 71 to 75 failed the test. &nbsp; &nbsp; Researchers found that participants who struggled with the simple balancing were 84% more likely to die in the next 10 years than those who could stand unsupported.&nbsp;

Good news for beer lovers! Moderate consumption of beer can increase the diversity of people&rsquo;s gut bacteria, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.&nbsp;
Microbes in the gut aid digestion, protect bodies against disease-causing bacteria and regulate immune system.&nbsp;
The researchers conducted the study over a four-week period, participants were given 325 ml of beer (non-alcoholic or alcoholic) every day. Their gut microbiota was examined both before and after the study.
The team found positive impact of beer consumption on the participants&rsquo; intestinal health. Study authors also observed that moderate consumption of beer didn't impact participants&rsquo; body weight, fat mass or even their heart health and metabolism.&nbsp;

According to a study presented at the &nbsp;European Academy of Neurology (EAN), Covid-19 patients are at an increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer&rsquo;s, Parkinson&rsquo;s disease and ischaemic stroke.
For the study, researchers analysed the health records of 9,19,731 individuals from February 2020 to November 2021. They used statistical techniques to calculate relative risk and results were stratified for hospitalisation status, age, sex and comorbidities.
As per the findings, 43,375 people who tested positive had 3.5 times increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease, 2.6 times higher risk of Parkinson&rsquo;s disease and 2.7 times with ischaemic stroke.&nbsp;

According to a recent UN report, Cannabis use has widely increased in countries that have legalised the drug. The regular intake of the drug also rose during the Covid-19 lockdowns, raising the risk of depression and suicide, the report added.&nbsp;
Various U.S states have legalised non-medical the use of cannabis including Washington and Colorado. Other countries including Canada have taken similar steps.&nbsp;
While cannabis has been the world&rsquo;s most widely used drug, the content of the drug is also getting stronger. As per the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) annual World Drug Report, roughly 284 million people or 5.6 per cent of the world&rsquo;s population consumed drugs such as heroin, cocaine and ecstasy in 2020. Of those, 209 million used cannabis.&nbsp;
The consumption of cannabis among teenagers has not changed much but the drug use has majorly increased among young adults, the report concluded.&nbsp;
