Sunlight is a blessing, stop throwing shade at it!

Regulated exposure to sunlight has a range of benefits that keep us healthy and happy with scintillating skin. So with ample sunscreen protection, step out in the sun for a plethora of benefits.

Sunlight and serotonin

According to National Center for Biotechnology Information (U.S.), exposure to sunlight has been reported to activate the synthesis of serotonin in a human adult. Serotonin is a hormone that is considered to be a natural mood stabilizer. It impacts every part of the body, from emotions to motor skills. The research institute also revealed that adults tend to exhibit elevated serotonin levels when exposed to sunlight, especially during late summers and early fall.

Sunlight and mental health

According to Mayoclinic, an American academic medical center, decreased sun exposure has been associated with a drop in serotonin levels, which can lead to major depression with seasonal patterns. The light-induced effects of serotonin are triggered by sunlight so, during peak winters, one is more likely to experience this type of depression.

Sunlight and stronger bones

Exposure to the ultraviolet-B radiation in the sun’s rays causes a person’s skin to create vitamin D. According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health in the United States, the vitamin D synthesized plays a role in bone health and improved bone density. Low vitamin D levels have been linked to rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults.

Sunlight and better skin

Sunlight triggers the synthesis of vitamin D within the body. Stanford researchers found that this action causes immune cells to travel to the outer layers of the skin where they are available to protect and help repair skin damage. However, too much exposure can gravely affect the skin and lead to sunburn. So ample sunscreen is a must!
