Summer essentials: 5 tips to stay safe from heatwave as temperatures soar across India

Summers are here and so is the need to stay hydrated and safe as temperatures soar across India. While summer means iceecreams, mangoes and fun times at the pool it also means sweating, dehydration and heat wave.

This summer protect yourself from the heat by following these few simple tips.

5 effective tips to protect yourself from the heatwave

Stop caffeine, get hydrated

Summers and the sweltering heat can make you dehydrated, especially if you have stepped outside. Make sure to carry a bottle of water and avoid alcoholic beverages and drinks with caffeine as they can lead to dehydration. You can also have coconut water, milkshakes and juices to remain hydrated.

Seek shade

When outdoors, seek shade under trees, umbrellas, or canopies to reduce direct exposure to the sun. Use hats, sunglasses, and umbrellas to stay protected from the heat and UV rays.

Limit physical activity

Avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours. If you must engage in outdoor activities, schedule them for cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late evening.

Be aware

During summers, make sure to monitor local weather forecasts and heat advisories to stay informed about heatwave conditions. You should also be aware of heatwave related symptoms like dehydration, dizziness and exhaustion.

Make sure to stay in touch with friends, family, and neighbours during heatwaves, especially those who may be living alone or without air conditioning. You can also help the stray dogs and cats by placing a bowl of fresh water outside your home.
