Study says minimum of 2,000 steps in a day reduces risk of premature death

No one can deny the health benefits of walking. And a new research published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine proves it yet again. The study found that minimum of 2,000 steps a day reduces the risk of premature death by 8 to 11 percent.

For the study, 78,500 people including middle-aged and older were monitored through a device tied on their wrists which calculated their daily physical activities.

The study also claims that walking everyday has multiple health benefits. For example, 9,800 steps a day lower the risk of dementia by 50 percent and about 3,800 steps cut it by 25 percent. Power walking or brisk walking also cut down the risk of premature death, dementia, heart disease and cancer.
