Study says daydreaming is sign of a healthy mind. Know what its benefits are!

We have all at some point been caught daydreaming by a teacher in school. Or even now start building castles in the air between boring office meetings, and fall into trouble.

But according to scientists, day dreaming is natural and is far from a waste of time. It is rather a sign of a healthy mind. They say that humans spend an average of 30% - 50% of their time daydreaming.

Benefits of day dreaming:

1. Lessens Stress and Anxiety

By turning our attention away from the outside world for a while, we allow our mind to relax and explore.

2. Helps Solve Problems

Daydreams allow our thoughts to roam freely and revitalizes us. So that we can approach our problems with a fresh perspective.

3. Uses Diverse Parts of Our Brain
Children mostly have diverse imagination which is a result of day dreaming. This gives our brain a chance to think out of the box and let our creative juice flow freely.

4. Helps Us Reach Goals

Research has revealed that the thoughts we have during daydreaming are indeed unguided and are often motivated by our goals. That's why athletes and performers sometimes use purposeful daydreaming to practice before a match or performance.

5. Expands Our Creativity

According to a study, 2 minutes were assigned to two groups of college students to come up with as many uses as possible for everyday things like scissors or glasses. Those who daydreamed first could focus on generating more creative ideas than the ones who started off right away without lingering around their thoughts. They were 41% more productive and creative.

So, next time someone catches you with your "head in the clouds" tell them that you are wearing your thinking cap in a unique style.
