Salt is one of the most common kitchen ingredients and it not only enhances taste but also maintains the right balance of water and minerals in our body. However, experts suggest that excessive consumption of salt can be harmful for overall health and well-being.

Here's how you can reduce salt intake in your meals, according to experts.

Steer clear of packaged food

Packaged food contains more sodium so it's best to avoid it. If you are considering eating it then check the amount of sodium present from the information on the packet.

Avoid adding extra salt

Add less salt while cooking and avoid adding extra salt on top of your food. Try switching to rock salt (sendha namak) or black salt which have lesser sodium.

Avoid sea food

In order to prevent excess sodium intake, limit the consumption of sea food. Opt for DASH diet for a healthy heart and balanced blood pressure.
