Researchers develop new single-shot vaccine to cure AIDS

A team of researchers from Tel Aviv University have created a new vaccine that can treat HIV-AIDS via gene editing, which might be a game changer in medical science.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV assaults the immune system and, if left untreated, can result in Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome AIDS.

Pertinently, there is no cure for HIV/AIDS as of now. However, scientists claim to have found a novel therapy that may destroy the virus with a single injection, perhaps resulting in a significant improvement in the patients' condition.

Published in the journal Nature, the study was conducted in collaboration with additional researchers from Israel and the US.

As per the findings, the team achieved preliminary success in neutralising the virus by manipulating type B white blood cells that trigger the immune system to make HIV-neutralising antibodies.
