Mithun Chakraborty suffers Ischemic Cerebrovascular Stroke: All you need to know about the condition

National award winner and popular actor Mithun Chakraborty was recently rushed to a hospital in Kolkata after he suffered a stroke. The actor complained of chest pain and was immediately taken to Apollo hospital. Now the hospital has released a statement and revealed that the actor suffered an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Stroke.

What is Ischemic Cerebrovascular Stroke?

An ischemic cerebrovascular stroke, commonly referred to as an ischemic stroke, is a medical condition in which the blood supply to a part of the brain is affected. This interruption is usually caused by a blood clot or atherosclerosis (the buildup of fatty deposits or plaques) in the blood vessels supplying the brain.

There are two types of strokes:

Thrombotic Stroke:

A thrombus or a blood clot forms in an artery, delivering blood to the brain, and resulting in a thrombotic stroke.

Embolic Stroke:

This type of stroke happens when a blood clot or other debris forms elsewhere in the body (often in the heart) and travels through the bloodstream until it gets attached to a small portion of the brain. This clot is called an embolus.

What are the symptoms of a stroke?

Some symptoms of stroke are abrupt numbness or paralysis in the arm, leg, or face (usually on one side of the body), disorientation, difficulty speaking, vision problems in one or both eyes, difficulty walking, and sudden, intense headaches.

Risk factors

Some risk factors are hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, smoking, obesity, irregular heartbeat, history of stroke, and age.
