Do you stay awake late at night to binge-watch your favourite shows or love burning the midnight oil in general?

Well, it's high time that you change your habit!

A recent study published in the journal Experimental Physiology suggests that people who are awake at night are more prone to diabetes and heart diseases as compared to early risers.

The research found that night owls are likely to burn less fat for energy as they rely more on fat for their source of energy.

They are at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The analysis was done with 51 middle-aged obese participants depending on their daily activities.

As per the findings, early birds are more sensitive to insulin and burned more fat while at rest as well as during exercise.

Whereas, night owls are less sensitive to insulin and favor carbohydrates over fat as a source of energy.
