Is washing chicken a big no no? Study says it may lead to foodborne illnesses

We have always believed that washing raw ingredients is a crucial step before cooking. However, it looks like we were wrong all this while. The food safety authorities and regulators recommend that you don't need to wash poultry before cooking as it can spread bacteria around the kitchen.

It is recommended to cook chicken thoroughly without washing it, so it is safe to eat. The researchers from Drexel University and New Mexico State University also launched a program called 'Don't Wash Your Chicken' in September 2022 to educate people against washing poultry.

Researchers also suggest that Salmonella found in poultry products is the main reason behind foodborne illnesses and washing chicken increases the risk of such bacterias to spread.
