Researchers at Queen’s University Belfast, UK recently led a study that found that individuals who consumed flavonoid-rich foods tended to have lower blood pressure.

Including more flavonoids in your diet is a great way to help your body stay healthy and potentially decrease your risk of some chronic health conditions like hypertension and rising blood pressure.

Berries

All berries contain flavonoids, but certain varieties are more potent than others. Blackberries are particularly powerful and include all six types of flavonoids. Alternatively, blueberries, cherries and raspberries also contain a moderate amount of flavonoids.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and lemons contain flavanoids. Juicing these fruits results in an even more concentrated availability of these healthy plant compounds. They help as antioxidants and may regulate blood pressure.

Apples

This fruit contains three different subclasses of flavonoids. They are rich in natural substances and can help in the regulation of blood pressure.


Kale

Another great source of flavonols is the green leafy vegetable kale. It is said to contain more flavonoids than other vegetables and has a healthy effect on the body.

Onions

Onions are also a rich source of flavonoids and can easily be added to your diet. They add flavour to the food and help keep blood pressure in check.
