What is hypersomnia?

Hypersomnia is a medical condition characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness and prolonged nighttime sleep. Individuals with hypersomnia often struggle to stay awake during the day, even after a full night's sleep. However, by following a few simple tips you can get rid of hypersomnia symptoms.

What are the symptoms of hypersomnia?

Sleepy during the day

People with hypersomnia experience persistent and overwhelming sleepiness during the day, which can lead to difficulty staying awake and alert.

Long sleep duration

Individuals with hypersomnia often sleep for extended periods at night, and despite getting sufficient sleep. They feel tired during the day.

Unable to wake up in the morning

If you are suffering from hypersomnia, waking up in the morning can be a huge challenge. You may wake up feeling groggy and disoriented.

Napping

While daytime napping is a common behavior, those with hypersomnia may take long and frequent naps, which can provide only temporary relief from sleepiness.

5 simple tips to deal with hypersomnia

Do you also feel sleepy all day despite a good night's rest? You may be suffering from hypersomnia. This condition is usually cause by excessive work pressure, alcoholism, and depression. However, there are some simple ways to reverse this issue.

1. Keep phone and laptop away - Keep your phone and laptop away for a few hours before sleeping.

2. Do not drink tea or coffee - Before going to bed, avoid having tea or coffee as it can make you sleep-deprived.

3. Get hydrated - Make sure to be hydrated and drink enough water throughout the day.

4. Exercise - Get up and exercise. Engage in regular physical activity, but try to avoid vigorous exercise close to bedtime.

5. Stay away from stress - Make sure to stay away from stress if you want a good night's rest.
