      It's normal to sweat when you feel hot or during any physical activities, but sweating while you're sleeping is not common. This phenomenon is known as night sweats or hyperhidrosis which occur over several weeks, even when the room temperature is cold.

      Common causes of night sweats

      • Menopause could be the major reason behind hot flashes and sudden changes in the body
      • Medications, steroids, pain relievers, and insulin can make you sweat at night
      • Stress, anxiety, mood changes, sadness or constant fatigue could also be a major reason
      • Certain spicy food contains capsaicin which triggers the nerve making you feel warm

      Precautions for night sweats

      • Practice good sleep hygiene, wear breathable clothes and keep the room temperature cold
      • Experts suggest that cognitive behavioural therapy can reduce menopausal symptoms
      • Maintain a healthy body weight as your body weight could also be a risk factor for developing obstructive sleep apnea
