Diet or sugar free drinks harm the body in just first hour of consumption

We often feel that diet or low sugar counterparts of our favourite soft drinks are better options as they are low in calories and contain less sugar.

However, according to experts these low sugar drinks are not as healthy as you think and can harm the body just in the first hour of consumption.

The zero-calorie drink contains artificial sweeteners which even the dentists warn are bad for oral health and can cause cavities and sensitivity. Orthodontist, Dr. Khaled Kasem recommends sipping the beverage through a straw and drinking water afterwards.

As per previous research, artificial sweeteners have been linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke as well as diabetes. And, for those trying to lose weight low-sugar sweeteners are not recommended. There are several types of artificial sweeteners including sucralose, saccharin and aspartame which is present in diet/low sugar drinks.

Experts claimed that they also increase thirst and may cause dehydration as a 12-ounce can contain 46 milligrams of caffeine.

Even though drinks like Diet Coke contain less caffeine than regular ones, they still contain a moderate amount and should be consumed in moderation.
