Actor Sushmita Sen undergoes angioplasty; know why there's a surge in heart attacks

Ever since the pandemic, we not only witnessed the peak of coronavirus but were also introduced to diseases like Monkeypox and Tomato Flu. However, one thing was always there and still is; heart disease.

Amidst all this, actor Sushmita Sen revealed that she suffered a heart attack a few days ago and underwent angioplasty, in an Instagram post. The actor further said that she is sharing this post to let her fans know that she is doing fine now.

In the recent past the cases of heart attacks have risen and people have succumbed to it, among them were celebrities KK, Sidharth Shukla, Raj Kaushal, Raju Srivastava and Deepesh Bhan.

These artists were visibly fit and showed no signs of ailments even immediately before collapsing to a heart attack. The premature deaths of these popular figures, who were in their 40s-50s have raised questions about their lifestyle, the nature of their work and their daily schedule. So, why are we seeing a sudden increase in the death of people who seem to be fit and healthy?

It is wrong to assume that young people can't die of a heart attack. The body of a 20-year-old person is as vulnerable as that of a 60-year-old person if healthy lifestyle habits are not followed properly. As per a 2019 report by Harvard Health, 80% of heart attacks that happen due to blockages in coronary arteries are seen in young adults.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) says, high rates of obesity and high blood pressure are the reasons why the incidence of heart disease in people as young as 35-40 years is so common these days. Drug abuse, smoking and other unhealthy habits also account for the majority of heart disease cases as seen from various data.

Therefore, youngsters should be careful about their heart health. The American Heart Association recommends not more than 30-60 minutes of physical activity for a healthy heart. Apart from this, maintaining weight, eating a balanced meal and leading a stress-free life altogether contribute towards good health and hence a good heart.
