Oversleeping Health Risks: A good night's sleep is essential for the body and mind but oversleeping can put you at certain health risks. The amount of sleep you require is determined by your age and level of activity, as well as your overall health and lifestyle habits. Obesity

Research indicates those who regularly sleep 9 to 10 hours a night are more likely to experience excess weight gain and obesity.

      Back pains

While sleep and rest are often associated with healing, oversleeping can exacerbate symptoms. Spending too much time in bed can aggravate back or shoulder pain.

      Depression

Oversleeping is a major symptom of depression . Although insomnia is more commonly associated with depression than oversleeping, approximately 15% of people with mental illness sleep excessively.
