Love decorating your nails; here are tips to take care of them

From your hair to toes, everything needs special care and your nails are no exception. According to experts there are two types of nail damage: one those are caused by ageing, medical conditions or genetics and are difficult to treat, and the second, those caused by environmental factors, which can be treated easily.

Tips for nail care

Always use non-acetone nail polish remover-
Acetone dries out the nails making them brittle. Use formulae that contain soy and have moisture-retaining oils that benefit the nails.

Moisturise the nails properly-
Always look for products that are rich in phospholipids and increases flexibility of nails. Cuticles should be kept clean and moisturised after every handwash with a product containing sunflower oil and Brazil nut oil.

Use gloves when working with water-
Experts recommend wearing hand gloves when using water as the water absorbed by nails puts strain on the nail cells, leading to breakage, peeling and weakening.

Use glass nail files-
Glass or crystal nail files don't create any microscopic openings and give a clean edge to the nail.

Avoid products that contain formaldehyde-
Formadehyde hardens nails and causes skin irritation, swelling and pain.

Treat nails with Glycolic acid-
Glycolic acid helps in keeping nails hydrated and maintain their moisture. It also removes the disulfide bonds of nail keratin. According to experts, removing the dead layers allows the other ingredients to absorb moisture.
