Historic fashion moment: Coperni's spray-painted fabric dress creates thunder, know about this technology

Bella Hadid walked on the runway, wearing only a G-string and holding her breasts, and little did we know what was going to happen next, would create a fashion history. Paris Fashion Week is surely known to be a bag of goodies but it will take quite a time to get over Coperni's spring/summer 2023 finale show.

A truly magical fashion moment was witnessed when Bella Hadid was spray-painted by two technicians. What came as an outcome was an illuminating white dress and that runway walk will now forever be etched in our hearts and minds.

Notably, this dress has a connection with another historic fashion moment which took place at Alexander McQueen's spring 1999 show, when Shalom Harlow's dress was similarly spray-painted by robots. It was quite similar but also different from what happened at the recent Paris fashion show.

It took hardly 15 minutes for the technicians to finish the spray-on dress, and after that a woman came and cut a slit and turned it into an off-shoulder look. Trust us, it wasn't just an illusion.

How did spray-on fabric dress came into existence?

The Fabrican was created in 2003 by Dr. Manel Torres. It is a liquid fibre that bounds together with polymers, bio polymers and green solvents and it evaporates when spray reaches the surface. According to Torres, the fabric is suede and can be manipulated the way you want it to be. The woman cutting a slit into Hadid's dress was a proof.

How long did it take for Coperni to come up with this?

Coperni co-founders, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant had been working with Torres and his team at London Bioscience Innovation Centre for over six months to create this spray-on dress.

According to Valiant and Meyer, this is their duty as designers to try new things and it was not for money but to create emotion. And, we can't agree more!
