Heeramandi: Designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula open about where they drew inspirations for the costumes

The web series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' has released today on Netflix. The grand sets and designer costumes have been making headlines right since the first glimpse of the magnus opus came out. But what inspired the designers? Here's what the designers say.

Inspiration behind the costumes

Well, in an interview with PTI, the designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula mentioned that most of the inspiration came from the beautifully written script itself. However, they also took inspiration from personalities such as Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum or Meena Kumari and their attire and style.

In the series, women wore ghararas, lehengas, anarkali sets and saree sets, reflecting the fashion of the era. Meanwhile, men sport kurtas, pajamas, sherwanis, angarakhas, jamas, and bandhgalas, along with modern suits, jackets, and cravats, influenced by British styles of the time.

The designer mentioned that "We aimed for captivating looks for all the women, emphasizing that costumes were tailored to suit each scene, character emotions and colour palettes driven by the narrative.
