Dopamine dressing: The art of styling up to improve your mood

Dopamine dressing: The art of styling up to improve your mood

Fashion is definitely a form of self-expression and dopamine dressing is all the rage post Covid-19 pandemic.

Tangy orange, hot pink and lemon yellow among others are the new black; thanks to dopamine dressing! But, what is it exactly?

Coined by fashion psychologist, Dawnn Karen, dopamine dressing refers to a person’s motivation to dress in a way that will result in a positive outcome, like feeling more confident, happy and satisfied.

However, this happiness-inducing style trend isn’t anything new. A 2012 study published by the University of Hertfordshire Press found a strong link between clothing and emotional well-being, suggesting that certain clothes help lift the mood.

In her book, 'Dress Your Best', Karen explained that even though more people are eyeing fuchsia and electric blue; colours, patterns and textures elicit different emotions for different people.

One thing we're sure of is that this trend of 'feel-good fits with an electric kick' is here to stay (don't forget the fads of 2022; barbiecore, avocado green and juicy tangerine).

No matter how bold and bright you decide to go, your outfit should always make you look and feel good (literally).

Also watch: Time to bid barbiecore trend adieu; hop on avocado green fad!
