      What is Ajrakh print?

Talking about the art Ajrakh print is a traditional block printing technique that originated in the regions of Sindh and Kutch in Gujarat, India.

Ajrakh print utilizes natural dyes and intricate hand-carved wooden blocks to create repetitive geometric and floral patterns on fabric.

Ajrakh print has gained immense popularity in contemporary fashion and textile design. It has become a sought-after choice for clothing, accessories, and home furnishings due to its unique patterns, rich colours, and sustainable production techniques.

      The making of Ajrakh print

The process of Ajrakh print involves the skilled use of hand-carved wooden blocks to imprint repetitive geometric and floral patterns on fabric. The name "Ajrakh" is derived from the Arabic word "Azrak," meaning blue, reflecting the traditional blue and red hues prominent in the early designs.

One of the defining features of Ajrakh print is its use of natural dyes. Artisans employ materials like indigo, pomegranate, and madder to create a vibrant and earthy color palette. The use of natural dyes not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also aligns with eco-friendly and sustainable practices.
