Why should you not be using fabric softener? Here’s what else might work

Fabric softeners can leave sticky residues, harm the environment, and better alternatives include baking soda, vinegar, or dryer balls.

Why should you not be using fabric softener? Here’s what else might work

Do you do your own laundry? If that's a yes, you've probably heard about something called "fabric softener." That's a liquid you pour into your washing machine to make your clothes feel soft and smell nice. But guess what? Using fabric softener might not be the best idea for your clothes or the environment, as per experts.

What happens to your clothes when you use fabric softener

Fabric softeners can leave a sticky residue on your clothes over time. This residue makes your clothes feel soft, but it's not great. Why? Because it can trap dirt and odours in your clothes. So, instead of keeping your clothes clean, it does the opposite.

Other than this, fabric softeners often contain chemicals that are not very friendly to the environment.

What are the alternative options for fabric softeners?

You can try using baking soda or vinegar in your laundry. They help soften your clothes and get rid of odours without the sticky residue or harmful chemicals.

Another cool option is using dryer balls. These are little, spikey balls you toss in the dryer with your clothes. They help reduce static and make your clothes softer naturally.
