IFS officer shares video of trees practising social distancing; take a look!

'Crown shyness' is a phenomenon where the topmost part of trees, called the crown, do not touch each other and form gaps. Have a look at the video.

Like humans, do trees also practise social distancing? Well, it seems so. Recently, IFS officer Ramesh Pandey
shared a video on Twitter where the topmost part of trees, called the crown, are not touching each other and are seen forming gaps.

In his post, he mentioned that it’s a kind of social distancing among trees and is called 'crown shyness'.

However, scientists don’t have any clear explanation behind this phenomenon but as per expert theories, trees practise it to prevent collision and to limit the spread of parasites between the trees or as a shade avoidance so that the sunlight reaches all the branches.
