Delhi artist Plasticvalla’s work is a lesson in using art as activism

An artist from Delhi, who goes by the name of plasticvalla on Instagram, is raising awareness about plastic pollution, one artwork at a time. And ‘plasticvalla’ Manveer Singh’s latest art installation is no different.

Singh has constructed a 15-feet Olive Ridley Sea turtle artwork on Odisha’s Rushikulya Beach.

Created with hard to recycle plastic waste, Singh wanted to portray the giant turtle with the very waste that bothers its existence.

The installation has been created as part of his residency for the METIS initiative on Plastics and Indo-Pacific Ocean 2021.

Singh who said he has used 50 kgs of MLP (or non-recyclable) plastic for this installation has been turning plastic into art since 2018.

He started out with the intention to spread awareness about the Ghazipur landfill mountain and has reportedly turned 250 kgs of MLP into artworks that have been placed in museums, art galleries, events and more.
