Are you guilty of 'parallel scrolling'? Know what it is and how it might be ruining your love life

Do you also keep watching reels in bed instead of talking to your partner who’s right their beside you? Then you are a culprit of killing your relationship. Known as 'parallel scrolling', this sleep habit could be deadly for your love life.

How does 'parallel scrolling' affect your relationship?

NYC-based couples and family therapist, Tracy Ross told HuffPost that this habit decreases the chances of intimacy and affection, or just communication with your partner.

According to Ross, laying in bed can be a time for partners to connect with each other, But she said many couples lack it and often complain that the other person is constantly on their phone making it difficult for them to hold their attention and, in turn, can create 'more separateness.'

The phone is probably not a problem

However, NYC based psychotherapist Aimee Hartstein told HuffPost it’s difficult to completely unplug from phones. After a long tiring day people want to unwind by watching their favourite shows or news or talk to friends. It doesn’t always have to be the phones which are to be blamed. If a couple is happy in a relationship, the phone is probably not a problem.

So, it’s better to try ‘parallel play’ which is watching or engaging in whatever the other person is watching on the phone, whether it’s a video, livestream or a movie.
