YSRCP Protests Mark Anniversary of 2024 Election Results in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, June 4 (PTI) – On Wednesday, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) staged ‘Betrayal Day’ protests throughout Andhra Pradesh, marking the first anniversary of the 2024 election results and the subsequent establishment of a government led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Hundreds of YSRCP leaders, cadre members, and activists participated in rallies in key areas, including urban centers such as Tirupati, Vijayawada, and Anantapur, among others.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the TDP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Janasena, achieved a sweeping victory in the elections, securing 164 out of 175 assembly seats, while the YSRCP was reduced to just 11 seats. The results of the 2024 elections were announced exactly a year ago.

YSRCP supporters, bearing placards and black flags, criticized the government led by N. Chandrababu Naidu and chanted slogans against it. "The distinction of cheating and backstabbing all sections of people in this state goes to Chandrababu Naidu and the alliance leaders," stated a YSRCP leader to the media.

In Tirupati, a protest placard read, "Babu (Naidu) definitely cheated, and today is betrayal day." Protesters also pointed out the "unfulfilled" Super Six promises made by Naidu during the 2024 campaign, including one placard in the temple town accusing the Chief Minister of "cheating" women by not delivering the promised Rs 1,500 per month to women aged 19 to 59 years.

The Super Six promises included creating 20 lakh jobs for the youth or providing a Rs 3,000 monthly unemployment allowance and free bus travel for women.

Conversely, TDP general secretary and IT Minister Nara Lokesh stated that a year ago, democracy and the people's will triumphed over what he called the "destructive" governance of the former YSRCP regime.

"The people's aspirations won a resounding victory over the anarchic and factional rule. This victory is the victory of five crore people. The people's verdict has further increased the responsibility of our alliance," Lokesh expressed in a post on the social media platform X.

Lokesh emphasized that with Naidu's governance experience and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support, the reconstruction of Andhra Pradesh has begun. According to Lokesh, the NDA alliance government places paramount importance on both development and welfare.

"I thank the five crore people who blessed the NDA government. I request you to stand by us with the same spirit to keep Andhra Pradesh at the top of development. Best wishes to everyone on the occasion of people's verdict day," Lokesh added.
