'Where is Ghulam that was begging': Omar's sharp retort to Azad's 'late-night meets with PM' remark

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah hit out at veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad for claiming that Omar and his father Farooq Abdullah were briefed by the BJP of the abrogation of Article 370 years before it actually happened.

Azad during an interview to India Today made sensational claims that the Abdullahs sought late-night appointments with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Terming Azad's remarks as bile, Omar on social media X said that while they were kept under eight-month detention, Azad was the only former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister who was free.

He also accused Abdullah and his son of having double standards, as they "say one thing in Srinagar, another in Jammu, and something else in Delhi".

"Wah bhai wah Ghulam Nabi Azad, so much bile today. Where is the Ghulam that was begging us for Rajya Sabha seats in J&K as recently as 2015? 'Abdullahs knew about 370' yet we were detained for more than 8 months including under PSA & you were free, the only ex CM in J&K free after 5th Aug (sic)."

However, in another interview to ANI, Azad clarified that he never claimed that Farooq Abdullah met PM Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah. He said his earlier remarks were based on information from sources.

“I never claimed that he (Farooq Abdullah) met him (PM Modi). I said that through sources in Delhi, it has come to be known that he tries to meet central leadership that too only at night. I never said that he met or got an appointment," ANI quoted Ghulam Nabi Azad.
