The Delhi Police's women pipe band participated in the Republic Day parade for the first time on Thursday.
They were part of the Delhi Police band led by Inspector Rajender Singh that marched on the Kartavya Path.
They played the "Delhi Police Song".
Assistant Commissioner of Police and IPS officer Shweta K Sugathan led the Delhi Police marching contingent at the parade this year.
The Delhi Police marching contingent comprised one gazetted officer, three sub-inspectors, 44 head constables and 100 constables, all smartly clad in red safa.
All the members of the contingent were more than six feet tall.
The Delhi Police's marching contingent has a unique distinction of participating in every Republic Day parade ever since India became a republic on January 26, 1950.
It has been adjudged the best marching contingent of the Republic Day parade 15 times. Its motto is "Shanti, Seva aur Nyaya'', meaning "Peace, Service and Justice".
It also won the best marching contingent in 2021.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh launched Bharat Biotech's nasal Covid vaccine, iNCOVACC, on the occasion of Republic Day on Thursday.
The nasal vaccine -- BBV154 -- had received the Drugs Controller General of India's (DCGI) approval in November for restricted emergency use among adults as a heterologous booster dose.
According to a statement issued by Bharat Biotech earlier, 'iNCOVACC' is priced at Rs 800 for private markets and at Rs 325 for supplies to the government of India and state governments iNCOVACC is a recombinant replication deficient adenovirus vectored vaccine with a pre-fusion stabilised spike protein. This vaccine candidate was evaluated in phase I, II and III clinical trials with successful results, the Hyderabad-based vaccine maker had said.
Clinical trials were conducted to evaluate iNCOVACC as a primary dose schedule and as a heterologous booster dose for subjects who have previously received two doses of either Covishield or Covaxin.

India on Thursday strongly condemned the recent vandalisation of three Hindu temples in Australia and the graffiti on them which included the glorification of anti-India terrorists.

India on Thursday strongly condemned the recent vandalisation of three Hindu temples and the graffiti on them which included the glorification of anti-India terrorists in Australia.
Earlier, this month, the Swaminarayan temple in Melbourne, the historic Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Carrum Downs, Victoria and the ISKCON temple in Melbourne were defaced by &lsquo;anti-social elements&rsquo; with anti-India graffiti.
"The frequency and impunity with which the vandals appear to be operating are alarming, as are the graffiti which include the glorification of anti-Indian terrorists," the Indian High Commission in Canberra said in a strongly worded statement.
The commission also noted that these incidents were clear attempts to sow hatred and division among the peaceful multi-faith and multi-cultural Indian-Australian community.
The high commission highlighted "that pro-Khalistan elements are stepping up their activities in Australia, actively aided and abetted by members of proscribed terrorist organisations such as the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and other inimical agencies from outside Australia." "It is hoped that not only will the perpetrators be brought to justice but suitable action will also be taken to prevent further attempts," the statement said.

In addition, the commission has conveyed concerns about the so-called referendum in Melbourne and Sydney, announced by the proscribed organisation, the Sikhs for Justice next week.
The High Commission urged the Australian Government to ensure the safety and security of members of the Indian community and their properties in Australia and to not allow the use of Australian territory for activities detrimental to the territorial integrity, security and national interest of India.
The Australian High Commission in New Delhi has also expressed concern over the incidents, saying the matters are under investigation.
"Like India, Australia is a proud, multicultural country. We have been shocked at the vandalism of two Hindu temples in Melbourne, &amp; Australian authorities are investigating. Our strong support for freedom of expression does not include hate speech or violence," Australia&rsquo;s High Commissioner to India Barry O&rsquo;Farrell tweeted recently.
According to the 2011 census, about 2,95,362 in Australia were born in India and there were 3,90,894 responses for Indian ancestry. In 2011-12 Indians were the largest source of permanent migration to Australia. Indians formed 15.7 per cent of the total migration programme in 2011-12, according to the information from the Indian High Commission in Canberra website.&nbsp;

Search giant Google has commemorated India's 74th Republic Day with an artwork that uses intricately hand-cut paper and features iconic landmarks such as Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, North Block and South Block, a contingent and motorcycle-borne 'Daredevils'.

The doodle depicts the letters 'g', 'o', 'g', 'l' and 'e' in lowercase black fonts while a circle over the dome of the President's House symbolically represents the other 'o' in 'Google'.
A peacock and floral patterns add a layer of charm to the art in monochrome.
"Today's doodle celebrating India Republic Day was illustrated by Ahmedabad, Gujarat-based guest-artist Parth Kothekar," the software giant said in a note shared on the doodle on its website.
It also features a video of the doodle in the making.
"My inspiration was to create a portrait of India," says the artist.
"Today's doodle artwork is crafted from intricately hand-cut paper. Many elements of the Republic Day parade are represented in the artwork, including the Rashtrapati Bhavan (where the president resides), the India Gate, the CRFP marching contingent, and motorcycle riders. Happy Republic Day, India!" the note said.
On this day in 1950, India declared itself a sovereign, democratic, and republic state with the adoption of the Constitution.
"India gained its freedom from the British Empire in 1947 and began drafting its Constitution soon after. The India Constituent Assembly took two years to discuss, modify, and approve the governing document, and when adopted, India became the country with the longest constitution. The adoption of this document paved the way for democracy and empowered Indian citizens to elect their own representatives," the note said.
"To celebrate the national holiday, there are various parades around the country, with the largest one taking place at Rajpath (now Kartavya Path), a ceremonial boulevard in New Delhi," it said.
After a ceremonial wreath laying to honour fallen soldiers, regiments of India&rsquo;s armed forces and tableaus representing cultural and historical heritage march through the street.
To conclude the festivities, the Beating Retreat ceremony takes place on the evening of January 29.&nbsp;

In a major announcement ahead of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls due this year-end, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said unemployed youth will be given a monthly allowance in the state from the next financial year. &nbsp;
It was one of the key promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls, following which the party returned to power in the state after a gap of 15 years.&nbsp;
"Unemployed youth will be given an unemployment allowance every month from the next financial year (2023-24),&rdquo; Baghel said without specifying the amount.
Addressing people on the occasion of the Republic Day on Thursday after unfurling the national flag at the Lalbag Parade grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state to strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy.

The mayoral election in the national capital was stalled on Tuesday for the second time this month&nbsp;

&nbsp;Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) mayoral candidate Shelly Oberoi moved the Supreme Court on Thursday for directions to ensure that the mayoral election in Delhi is conducted in a time-bound manner, party officials said.
The mayoral election in the national capital was stalled on Tuesday for the second time this month as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House was adjourned indefinitely by the lieutenant governor-appointed presiding officer, following a ruckus created by some councillors.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hooliganism and halting the MCD proceedings, AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said Leader of the House Mukesh Goel and Oberoi approached the top court for directions to ensure that the mayoral election is conducted in a time-bound manner.
The case is likely to be taken up on Friday, AAP leaders said.

A Delhi Police head constable died on Thursday after he shot himself with his service pistol inside Paharganj police station, officials said.
Head constable Devender, posted in jaguar team of Delhi Police's central district shot himself at 3.30 am, they said.
A suicide note has also been recovered in which Devender has stated that he took the extreme step due to personal reasons, a senior police officer said.
Proceedings under section 174 CrPC are being conducted. The post-mortem was conducted at the Lady Hardinge Medical College and his body has been sent to his native place in Haryana's Sonipat, the officer said.

A 23-year-old Indian-origin woman has died of multiple blunt force injuries after being struck by a Seattle police patrol vehicle in South Lake Union in the United States, the Seattle police department said in a statement.
According to ANI, the victim identified as Jaanhavi Kandula from Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, was shifted to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition after she was hit by the police patrol vehicle on January 23.
Kandula was a student at the Northeastern University campus in South Lake Union and was on track to receive a master's degree in information systems this December, according to The Seattle Times report.

"Except the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour, no other honour befits the son of the soil, Late Mulayam Singh Yadav. An announcement should be made to give Bharat Ratna to our respected Netaji without any delay," SP leader tweeted.

The government has made a mockery of Mulayam Singh Yadav's stature and contributions by conferring the Padma Vibhushan on him, Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya said on Thursday, demanding the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for him.
Yadav was on Wednesday posthumously conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian honour.
Reacting to the award, SP MLA Maurya tweeted in Hindi, "By giving Padma Vibhushan posthumously to Netaji Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Government of India has made a mockery of Netaji's stature, work and contributions to the nation. &nbsp;If Netaji had to be respected then he should have been honoured with Bharat Ratna." Similar views were expressed by party spokesperson I P Singh.
