VP Dhankhar Urges Political Unity on National Security

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) – Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar issued a cautionary note on Tuesday, highlighting that political discourse can occasionally become "too heated" for issues of nationalism and security, urging the political community to rise above such challenges.

Emphasizing the significant impact of Operation Sindoor, Dhankhar stated that it has "dramatically transformed our mindset," with Indians becoming "more nationalistic than ever." He stressed the importance of reaching a consensus across the political spectrum on matters of national security and economic development.

Dhankhar highlighted the participation of multiple political parties in overseas delegations as evidence of a unified effort to convey "our message of peace and New Delhi's intolerance to terrorism."

Addressing a group of Rajya Sabha interns, he remarked, "Having witnessed recent developments, we must understand that unity and resilience are our only paths forward. Like our institutions, political groups have a moral obligation to prioritize the national cause, as all institutions—be it the Legislature, the Judiciary, or the Executive—aim for national growth and public welfare."

Dhankhar strongly asserted that, on matters of national security and economic advancements, national interests must supersede partisan politics.

"I urge everyone across the political spectrum to engage in earnest reflection and reach the understanding that on issues of national security, economic growth, and internal stability, consensus is essential," he emphasized.

He pointedly noted, "There are times when politics becomes too intense for matters of nationalism and security. This is something we need to overcome."
