Uttarakhand Hosts Grand Mascot Unveiling Ceremony for 38th National Games

In a significant move that underscores the cultural heritage and sporting aspirations of Uttarakhand, the 38th National Games mascot unveiling ceremony was held at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur, Dehradun, on Sunday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led the event, marked by the addition of traditional Indian sports, Yoga and Malkhambh, into the National Games lineup—an initiative approved by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

The mascot, named Mouli and inspired by Uttarakhand’s state bird, the Monal, was revealed alongside the official logo, jersey, torch, anthem, and the tagline "Sankalp Se Shikhar Tak" (From Resolution to Zenith). Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the mascot embodies the state's rich biodiversity and cultural depth, while the logo projects its dynamic identity.

Describing the event as a historic moment for the state, Chief Minister Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the opportunity to host the games. He noted that Uttarakhand's sporting infrastructure has seen a significant boost, with around Rs 500 crore allocated for new facilities. This investment has led to the construction of sports grounds, upgraded stadiums, modern swimming pools, water sports infrastructure, and specialized facilities like cycling tracks and shooting ranges. Dhami added that small sports stadiums are also being built in hilly areas to encourage local talent.

"Our resolve must be firm and unwavering to achieve our goals," Dhami said, reiterating the state’s preparedness for the National Games. He highlighted that Uttarakhand's new sports policy now ensures government job placements for medal-winning athletes at both national and international levels. The Chief Minister also announced plans to reinstate a 4% reservation for athletes and double the prize money for state athletes, alongside ongoing efforts to establish a sports university.

Union Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse acknowledged the strong performance of Indian athletes in global events and commended Uttarakhand’s athletes for their contributions to the country’s sporting achievements. She affirmed the central government’s commitment to supporting sports development in the state and mentioned ongoing efforts to bring the Olympic Games to India.

IOA President Dr. PT Usha lauded Uttarakhand's preparations and expressed confidence in Chief Minister Dhami’s leadership, emphasizing that the state’s initiatives could set a benchmark for sports development.

The ceremony, conducted by RJ Kavya, was attended by Sports Minister Rekha Arya, who highlighted the significance of hosting the games in Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee year. Other notable attendees included Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, State Olympic Association President Mahesh Negi, and various officials committed to advancing Uttarakhand’s sports infrastructure and talent.

This event sets the stage for the 38th National Games, showcasing Uttarakhand’s readiness to celebrate and foster a deeper connection between sports, culture, and community.
