Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurates 'House of Himalayas' outlet in Delhi

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the new outlet of ‘House of Himalayas’ at the Uttarakhand Niwas Complex in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The initiative aims to provide a global platform for the natural, organic, and handmade products created in the hill regions of Uttarakhand. This outlet is set to become a key avenue for showcasing the state’s traditional heritage and rich folk culture in an organised manner in the national capital.

The Chief Minister said that this step reflects the state government's vision to highlight the potential of natural and handcrafted goods from mountainous areas. "This step will strengthen the rural economy and also provide new opportunities to local artisans and craftsmen," the CM said.

To support this effort, the state government has installed floor-standing units and retail carts at over 13 key pilgrimage and tourist destinations, especially with the ongoing Chardham Yatra in mind.

These include locations such as Naini Saini Airport, Pantnagar Airport, Dehradun Helipad, and GMVN centres at Kedarnath and Badrinath, along with Harshil, Guptkashi, Kaudiyala, Mussoorie, Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh), Snow Crest (Badrinath), ATI (Nainital), and Centria Mall. These retail points are drawing attention from both devotees and tourists.

Efforts are also underway to place similar retail carts in leading institutions and tourist hubs, including Marriott Mussoorie, Taj Dehradun, Forest Research Institute (FRI), LBSNAA, and Delhi Haat. These initiatives are helping bring wider national and international visibility to local products while also highlighting Uttarakhand's cultural richness and craftsmanship.

According to Secretary of Rural Development Radhika Jha, the ‘House of Himalayas’ brand has quickly carved a niche for itself based on quality. To further promote Uttarakhand’s cultural identity and link high-end tourism with local produce, partnerships have been established with prominent hospitality names such as Taj (Rishikesh, Ramnagar), Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Regency (Dehradun), Marriott (Ramnagar), Westin (Narendranagar), and JP Group (Mussoorie). Retail carts stationed at these hotels offer tourists direct access to unique handmade and organic goods from the state.

This initiative is proving to be a boost for local producers and artisans, offering new economic opportunities while supporting the broader goals of sustainable tourism and a self-reliant Uttarakhand.

The idea of the ‘House of Himalayas’ was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Global Investors Summit 2023.

Under this brand, signature Uttarakhand products like Buransh Sharbat, wild honey, mountain pulses, traditional spices, handmade garments, and organic materials are now reaching markets in major cities in a structured and accessible format.
