Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami extends greetings on fourth Sawan Somwar

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of the fourth Monday of the holy month of Sawan (Shravan).

Marking the auspicious day, the Chief Minister invoked the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra in a post on social media platform X and offered prayers for the prosperity and well-being of all residents.

He wrote, “Heartfelt wishes to all residents of the state on the auspicious occasion of the fourth Sawan Somwar.”

The month of Sawan, dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds deep significance in the Hindu calendar. Mondays during this period—known as ‘Sawan Somwar’—are considered especially sacred, attracting large numbers of devotees to temples and pilgrimage centres, particularly in Uttarakhand.

On Monday morning, temples across the country witnessed heavy footfall of devotees offering prayers. In Mumbai, Maharashtra, crowds gathered at the Babulnath Temple to mark the last Monday of the Sawan month. Similar scenes were seen in Uttar Pradesh, where devotees thronged several temples including Shiv Ganga Temple in Moradabad, Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, and Shri Mankameshwar Mahadev Temple in Prayagraj.

In Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, large numbers of worshippers offered prayers at Samartheshwar Mahadev Temple, where aarti was performed. As per the Gujarati calendar, the day marked the second Monday of Sawan.

According to Hindu beliefs, Shravan is the most favoured month of Lord Shiva. Worshipping the deity during this time is said to bring peace and relief from troubles.

Shiva temples across the nation resonated with the sound of conch shells, bells, and Vedic chants as hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva filled the air. Devotees queued up to perform rituals and seek blessings during this sacred period.

This year, the holy month of Shravan began on July 11 and will conclude on August 9.
