Uttarakhand sounds alert on monkeypox

The Uttarakhand government has asked officials to screen people who have returned from nations that have reported outbreak of the disease.

The advisory calls public health authorities to report otherwise 'unexplained rash and fever' and who have travelled in the last 21 days to a country that has recently reported a monkeypox case.

They have moreover asked for suspected patients to be isolated and their samples to be sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

This comes shortly after the Centre's guidelines was released. The guidelines has detailed a standard operating procedure to be followed in case a case is suspected which includes surveillance and rapid identification to contain any possible outbreak.
