Yogi Adityanath targets previous UP governments over recruitment irregularities

UP CM Yogi Adityanath accused previous governments of recruitment scams and misuse of the system, contrasting it with his government’s record of 8.5 lakh jobs and 2.19 lakh police recruitments since 2017.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday hit out at earlier state governments, accusing them of irregularities in recruitment and misuse of the system.

Speaking at an event in Lucknow, he said that most recruitment processes before 2017 were referred to the CBI for investigation.

"Earlier, most recruitment processes were referred to the CBI for investigation...These are the same people who used to recruit more people by taking money from the members of one family, and used to loot the people of Uttar Pradesh in this way, the looting which was seen in that form today. That recruitment is from 2016, and we had it investigated. The investigation is going on, and if the investigation is completed on time, then many such people involved in it will be forced to spend the rest of their lives in jail...," the Chief Minister said.

He contrasted the past with his government’s record in police recruitment. "...In the last eight years, we have successfully recruited 2 lakh 19 thousand police personnel who are serving in Uttar Pradesh. Just imagine that the recruitment of 2 lakh 19 thousand police personnel has been completed in these eight years only, out of which, recently, the recruitment of more than 60 thousand 200 police personnel was also completed...," he added.

Yogi further highlighted that 8.5 lakh youths have been given government jobs in the last eight years through regular recruitment conducted by commissions and boards. "Today, there is a shower of jobs in UP, both in the government and private sectors. The youth selected through fair recruitment are now serving the state with honesty and energy," he said.

Drawing a comparison with the situation before 2017, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh was once described as a "Bimaru" (sick) state where youths faced an identity crisis outside its borders. "Earlier, youths faced an identity crisis outside the state, and UP was seen as a barrier to the nation's development. But in the last eight years, we have transformed UP into the country's number two economy and the growth engine of India," he remarked.
