AYUSH colleges to be set up in six divisions across UP: CM Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that the state government has decided to open one AYUSH college in each of the six divisions that currently do not have any such institution.

The chief minister was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, the first AYUSH university in the state, which President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated on Tuesday.

The university has been constructed for ₹268 crore.

Welcoming the President, Adityanath said, "There are six divisions in Uttar Pradesh where there is no AYUSH college. The government has resolved to establish one AYUSH college in each of those divisions.” He added that a "health and wellness centre" with at least 100 beds will also be set up in every district to promote holistic health through traditional systems.

Targeting previous opposition governments, the CM said that India's ancient medical traditions did not receive due recognition on the global stage until 2014.

Giving credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, "We are grateful to our visionary Prime Minister, who, after assuming office, gave a national platform to Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Yoga by creating the Ministry of AYUSH."

Describing the newly inaugurated institution as a hub of both education and research, Adityanath said, "This is the first AYUSH university of Uttar Pradesh. Colleges offering traditional medical education have been affiliated with it. Through ayurveda, homeopathy, yoga and naturopathy, not only will people benefit from healthcare, but this university will also develop into a research centre and provide employment opportunities to the youth."
