UP holds 12-hour special drive in municipal corporations to enhance civic services

On the directive of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a 12-hour special campaign was carried out across municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of the Urban Development Department.

Focused on cleanliness, civic amenities, and public awareness, the initiative was aligned with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission and environmental protection. The drive not only resolved citizens’ immediate issues but also reinforced the broader effort towards a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

In Lucknow, the municipal corporation organized 32 tax collection and grievance redressal camps across all eight zones. Monitored through a dedicated war room, these camps provided on-the-spot facilities for tax payment and complaint resolution. Under the supervision of the Additional Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Tax Assessment Officer, a total of 1,365 complaints were resolved in a single day, while tax collections touched ₹2.30 crore.

Gorakhpur municipal corporation launched awareness campaigns in vending zones and market areas, where shopkeepers were given cloth bags and educated about the harmful effects of single-use plastic. Penalties were imposed on violators. In Varanasi, teams promoted waste segregation in Bharat Milap Colony and Mahesh Nagar Colony. With consistent door-to-door awareness drives, most households in these areas have now begun segregating wet and dry waste in separate bins, which are being collected by municipal vehicles.

In Mathura-Vrindavan, a 15-year-old garbage dump at Machhli Phatak was removed and the site was beautified. On the occasion of Radha Ashtami, a special cleanliness campaign was conducted in Ahilya Bai Park and surrounding areas, encouraging residents to adopt waste segregation and environmental conservation practices. Ghaziabad municipal corporation, in coordination with waterworks, health, and construction departments, addressed waterlogging issues in Mohan Nagar, Shalimar Garden, and the bus stand area. A 20-year-old drain and pipeline were cleaned, providing a permanent solution to local flooding concerns, much to the satisfaction of residents.

In Ayodhya, 20 GPS-enabled electronic hopper tippers were provided by Bharat Electronics Limited to improve door-to-door waste collection, ensuring each ward has its own vehicle with a dedicated route map. Shahjahanpur municipal corporation cleared a long-standing 150-tonne wet waste pile on Nigohi Road by transferring it to a treatment plant, while Moradabad municipal corporation disposed of 200 metric tons of garbage from an area previously outside municipal limits that had become a major dumping ground. The operation involved 250 sanitation workers supported by modern equipment, and residents were encouraged to hand over waste directly to municipal vehicles.

The Bareilly municipal corporation resolved long-pending water supply issues in Ward 53 by laying a new 1,100-meter pipeline in Mohalla Rohli Tola, which provided clean drinking water to 200 households. In Ashish Royal Park Colony, a failed borewell was replaced with a 15 HP tube well, restoring clean water supply to 260 families. Kanpur municipal corporation combined awareness drives against single-use plastic with community engagement by inaugurating three new football grounds and organizing friendly matches.

In Prayagraj, cleanliness and anti-larvae fogging campaigns were conducted in flood-affected areas, with active participation from ward committees and civil society groups. These efforts emphasized waste segregation and helped reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. The Meerut municipal commissioner inspected Kanha Cow Shelter to assess the nutrition and health management of stray cattle, stressing that cow service is not only a religious responsibility but also a social one.

Firozabad municipal corporation acted quickly after two days of heavy rainfall, resolving 12 complaints of waterlogging under the direct monitoring of the municipal commissioner. In Aligarh, continuous efforts were made to minimize waterlogging caused by rains, while CNDS projects were reviewed. Preparations were also completed for the handover of the Narangi Lal Smart City Sports Complex within the next two to three weeks, providing the city with a new sports facility.
