UK Woman Misses Fatal Air India Crash Due to Traffic Delay

Mumbai, Jun 13 (PTI) Bhumi Chauhan, a UK-based woman visiting India, is grateful to divine intervention and her good fortune for narrowly avoiding the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which she missed due to heavy traffic causing her delayed arrival at the airport.

Chauhan missed her chance to board AI 171, the flight bound for London that met its tragic fate shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, by a mere 10 minutes.

This was Chauhan's first visit to Ahmedabad since relocating to the UK two years ago. "I am in shock after hearing about the crash. I left the airport at 1.30 pm, having missed the flight due to traffic. I thank God," Chauhan shared with Republic TV.

She mentioned that she was in India on a vacation and was scheduled to return to London on the flight that departed at 1.39 pm, which tragically crashed into a medical college complex near the airport, erupting into flames just seconds after takeoff.

"The flight was on time, but I missed it, and I am incredibly thankful. My prayers go out to all those on board," she expressed.

Chauhan is heartbroken by what is considered India's most devastating aviation accident, claiming 265 lives.
