Turkey earthquake: Indian rescuers at work in Nurdagi; Indian Army hospital treats injured in Hatay

Three days after a major earthquake and multiple aftershocks devastated Turkey and Syria, the death toll continues to rise.

The official number of casualties crossed the 15,000-mark in the early hours of 9 February 2023.

Meanwhile, rescue and relief teams sent by India to help the affected countries were seen hard at work. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were seen carrying out rescue operations in Nurdagi in Turkey. The Indian Army's field hospital in Hatay was seen providing medical care to the injured.

India has sent multiple NDRF teams, sniffer dogs, and relief materials for earthquake-hit areas.

Turkey sits on top of major fault lines and is frequently shaken by earthquakes. Some 18,000 were killed in similarly powerful earthquakes that hit northwest Turkey in 1999.
