Tripura Enhances Railway Infrastructure with Electrification

Agartala, Aug 18 (PTI): Tripura has made significant strides in strengthening its railway infrastructure with the commissioning of power supply to the Teliamura traction sub-station in Khowai district. This development promises to pave the way for electric train services in the region, as stated by an official on Monday.

Just a day before, the Udaipur railway traction sub-station in Gomati district was successfully commissioned, marking a crucial step towards the introduction of electric train services. The Northeastern Frontier Railway (NFR) is actively working to replace diesel-operated train services in Tripura with electric ones.

Teliamura railway station, located in Khowai district, is now poised to support electrified train operations. The successful commissioning of the Teliamura railway sub-station was witnessed by railway officials, according to Biswajit Bose, the managing director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

"The project’s implementation will significantly enhance the efficiency and reliability of train services in the northeastern state," said Bose. He further added that, apart from ensuring smoother train operations, the project is expected to bolster power supply stability in Teliamura and its surrounding areas, benefiting both commuters and residents alike.

This initiative aligns with the Centre's broader mission to expand electrified railway connectivity across India. The establishment of traction sub-stations in Tripura is set to boost transport infrastructure, reduce operational costs and lower carbon emissions, thereby contributing to sustainable development.

TSECL's deputy general manager Kamal Krishna Das, senior manager Utpal Kar and railway official PC Meena were among those present at the program.
