Tripura CM Announces Major Employment Drive and Progress

Agartala, Jun 27 (PTI) - Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the state government has transparently filled vacant positions across various departments. Speaking at an event to distribute appointment letters, Saha revealed that since the BJP assumed power in Tripura, a total of 19,484 regular posts have been filled in different departments. He remarked, "Additionally, 5,700 individuals have been appointed as outsourcing and contractual employees since 2018, with 2,987 people employed as security guards and other workers. The government has upheld transparency in its recruitment processes," he stated as he handed out appointment letters to several successful candidates. For a small state like Tripura, the appointment of 19,484 individuals to government positions is significant, and the administration is actively working to fill vacant positions swiftly," Saha added. He expressed confidence in the government's progress, stating, "These appointments reflect that the administration is on the right track. We are committed to providing employment opportunities to the unemployed." According to Saha, the unemployment rate in Tripura has substantially decreased over the past seven years as the government addressed existing vacancies. He noted, "The state's unemployment rate dropped from 10 percent in 2018-19 to 1.7 percent in the 2023-24 fiscal year, based on a periodic labour force survey conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Our unemployment rate is now lower than the national average of 3.2 percent," Saha stated. Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, Saha explained, "Only 33.95 percent of the government workforce initially possessed the necessary skills. Achieving the 'Viksit Bharat' goal requires a skilled workforce, and the Prime Minister has initiated steps to improve skill levels, which have now risen to 54 percent, though further improvement is needed." Emphasizing the government's commitment to infrastructure development, the chief minister shared that he has inaugurated and launched projects valued at Rs 638 crore over the past six months. Saha elaborated, "The state's budget is set to increase to Rs 32,000 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year, up from Rs 25,000 crore in 2024-25. Furthermore, tax collection has seen a remarkable rise, with a 236 percent increase since 2018," he noted.
