Chennai Honors Dravidian Icon C N Annadurai on Birth Anniversary

Chennai, Sep 15 (PTI) On the occasion of Dravidian icon and former Chief Minister C N Annadurai's birth anniversary, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, paid heartfelt tributes to the leader, affectionately known as “Perarignar Anna.” On a post shared on ‘X,’ Stalin commemorated Annadurai's monumental contributions to the state, stating, “We will not let Tamil Nadu that the leader built bow its head. #RememberingAnna.”

Born on September 15, 1909, and serving until February 3, 1969, Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai was a defining figure in Tamil Nadu’s history. He was the founder of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and served as its first general secretary. Annadurai distinguished himself as the fourth and final Chief Minister of the erstwhile Madras State and notably as the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Attributing his legacy to Annadurai are notable achievements such as renaming the state, reflecting its cultural identity, and instituting the dual language policy of Tamil and English.

AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami also paid homage to Annadurai. He remarked that Anna was synonymous with Tamil Nadu—embodying its name, policies, actions, and political beliefs. “The @AIADMKOfficial has proudly carried Anna's legacy for 53 years,” Palaniswami stated in a post on ‘X.’

He further added, “Today, commemorating the birthday of the remarkable Anna, the unparalleled leader of Dravidian politics who uplifted ordinary people like us, we pledge to liberate Tamil Nadu from family rule. We aim to establish a government embodying #Annaism, valuing the common people under the leadership of #AIADMK. Let us protect our citizens and steer Tamil Nadu toward a brighter future. Long live Anna. #CNAisOurDNA.”
