Partial Restoration of Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Jammu, Sep 1 (PTI) - Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was partially restored on Monday, bringing relief to the numerous commuters who had been stranded for six days on this vital thoroughfare. The 250-kilometer-long highway, the sole all-weather road connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country, was rendered impassable due to several landslides and road subsidence. This particularly affected areas like Tharad Bridge, Balli Nallah in Udhampur district, and Maroog in Ramban district starting from August 27. An official from the traffic department announced, "The Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been partially opened for vehicular movement, and we're working to clear the stranded vehicles around the damaged areas in Udhampur in an organized manner." On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited and inspected the restoration efforts taking place along this critical highway, emphasizing that actions are being taken to ensure its early full restoration.
