Chennai, June 30 (PTI): On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a fleet of 120 low-roof electric buses, operated by the state-run Metropolitan Transport Corporation, with a total investment of approximately Rs 207.90 crore. The initiative, under the guidance of the state's transport department, marks a significant milestone for Tamil Nadu's public transportation sector, aiming to reduce urban pollution.

During the launch event, the Chief Minister, alongside Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar, interacted with bus drivers and conductors. The newly launched electric buses are set to operate across various routes in Chennai, including the '18A' route from Broadway to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam.

Additionally, Stalin inaugurated a dedicated electric bus terminus at Vyasarpadi, developed at a cost of Rs 47.50 crore.

The event witnessed the participation of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, elected representatives, and senior officials.
