TMC leader shot and killed in South 24 Parganas district

A 38-year-old leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was shot and killed in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, leading to heightened tension in the area, according to police reports on Friday. The incident occurred in the Bhangar area on Thursday night. Rajjak Khan, who was a close associate of the TMC's Canning Purba MLA, Saokat Molla, was attacked by gunmen, as reported by a senior police officer. No arrests have been made so far in connection with Khan’s murder.

The incident happened while Khan, the president of the TMC's Chaltaberia unit, was on his way home after attending a party meeting in the area, the officer stated. An initial investigation indicated that Khan was struck by three bullets. Additionally, the assailants stabbed him several times to ensure his death, the senior officer from Kashipur Police Station reported.

A police team has been stationed in the area, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. Saokat Molla has accused the Indian Secular Front (ISF) of orchestrating the murder of the local TMC leader. "Rajjak was heading home after attending two party meetings. He was shot and then stabbed multiple times. Those who are losing their foothold in Bhangar are responsible for this murder. Criminals sheltered by the ISF killed Khan. They are losing political relevance each day, and that is why they resorted to such criminal activities," the TMC legislator asserted.

Meanwhile, ISF MLA Nawsad Siddique dismissed the allegations as baseless, claiming that the killing resulted from the TMC's internal disputes. Bhangar has often been a hotspot for political clashes between the ISF and TMC factions, each vying for control of the region.
